Thinking About Switching from E-2 to E-7 Visa. Can My Teaching Experience Count?
I’m a Canadian currently living and working in Korea on an E-2 visa. Lately, I’ve been feeling pretty burned out from teaching and don’t really want to stay in this field much longer. I’m seriously thinking about switching to an E-7 visa so I can explore other career paths here in Korea. I have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from a university back home. I checked with immigration, and they said that if you graduated from a non-Korean university, you need at least one year of relevant work experience to qualify for the E-7. Now I’m wondering... does my teaching experience on an E-2 count as “relevant” for the E-7? Or does the experience have to match the job I’d be applying for under the E-7? Honestly, I’m kinda stressed about this. The requirements sound pretty tough, and I’m not sure how strict they are when it comes to matching experience with your target job. If anyone’s been through something similar or knows more about how E-7 applications work, I’d really appreciate any advice you can share. Thanks so much in advance! 🙏
